Canoeing and Kayaking

For canoeing enthusiasts, the choices are many. Name your pleasure, whitewater or flat water, day trips, weekend or week long excursions. For whitewater adventurers, the East Branch of the Penobscot River has Class II, III rapids, and a couple of falls where portages are a mouse. The West Branch of the Penobscot River has rapids for Class I - V so much fun can be had, but a guidebook to the rapids is necessary! This is a river for experienced paddlers only. Remote excursions to the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, of St. John River commence from this region. Trip fitting, canoe and kayak rentals and guide services are available.

For kayakers, the region is a paradise! The West Branch of the Penobscot River attracts paddlers from all over the world, with the faming challenge of The Cribworks, a Class V rapid, being an adrenaline rush for the most experienced paddlers.
