Hope started as a sponsored mission of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Waterville, Maine with Pastor Paul Nielsen presiding. The first official church service was held in Bangor’s Ramada Inn on February 22, 1998 and was led by Pastor Nielsen. The Ramada Inn was our church’s weekly meeting place until our new (and current) church home on Union Street was completed later that November.
Hope is (currently) one of three LCMS churches in Maine (the other two being south, in Waterville and Gorham). Hope ministers directly through traditional liturgy each Sunday and is also building an online ministry in order to reach Christians looking for (or without) a church home, wherever they may be. Hope’s regional goal is to help plant new churches in central and Northern Maine, as well as to aid in the LCMS ministry to parts of eastern Canada border. This ministry is primarily accomplished at present through audio and video streaming of sermons and select services via this website. More information about Hope’s short term and long terms ministry goals can be read at our ‘2-5-10 Committee page‘.
